List of Local Leaders through the Years

List of Local Leaders through the Years

The official title of the town leader or chieftain keeps on changing through the years. From gobernadorcillo, it became capitan municipal, then presidente municipal to municipal president to municipal mayor or alkalde (from the Spanish alcalde) or punong-bayan.

Today, in the age of the LGU or local government unit, the mayor is sometimes referred to as the LCE or local chief executive and often addressed with the honorific Hon. (for honorable) or Kgg. (for kagalang-galang).

One thing striking from this list is that all past local chiefs were men and in the oldentimes were addressed as Don. This ended in 2022 with the election of a woman.

It is sad that we know almost nothing about our early leaders. Writing about our mayor's accomplishments and preserving the reports for future reference is thus important.
