Brief History of Barangay Bical Sur
A
long time ago, the people of Barrio Bical Sur were living peacefully. They had very
few conflicts, if any, with each other. The people were always busy, especially
the heads of the families taking care of their respective family’s livelihood.
According
to our survey and interviews conducted among the very old people or the living
legends in the barangay, we found out how Bical got its name.
The
results reveal that the majority of the men here as head of their families eked
a living by farming. Others went into business, and some went to nearby
provinces and even Manila to look for jobs. On the other hand, their wives were
always left behind taking care of their children at home.
These
wives were very trustworthy and faithful to their husbands, even though the
latter were way for several months. They continued to take care of their
children, their animals and house. These women were then called “bibiin macalacal,”
which means women of good moral character.
And
from then on, the locals agreed to call the barrio Bical, which formed a
shorthand by combining syllables from “bibiin macalacal.”
