EDITORIAL - May 2017

EDITORIAL

Compared to the frenetic pace of the Town Fiesta Week, the month of May is much more subdued, even relaxed. But that doesn’t mean the LGU can now take some nap. It only means it is back to its routine of staging approximately one event everyday or every other day.

In fact, May is just a continuation of feast-making in many barangays, whose own fiestas fall within the month. It is also the month of Santacruzan in all barangays. These activities, more often than not, require some form of local government involvement. In keeping with the merry nature of the month, the LGU also made sure our town participated in the annual Pista’y Dayat and Limgas na Pangasinan contests at the Capitol.

The LGU was not remiss in fielding meaningful activities for Labor Day and Mother’s Day by holding 2017’s first major job fair, accepting students for summer jobs, and treating hardworking moms to a spa party.

At RHU 1, it was both Hypertension Awareness Month and Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. The first one was marked with an offer of free blood test for all LGU employees and barangay officials, courtesy of Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao, while the latter was marked with an offer of discounted price for Pap smear. There was also a privately initiated medical mission, bringing thousands of people to the Events Center. The Nutrition Office also was preoccupied with a seminar on Nutrition Early Warning Signs and three-day training for Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

Over at the Municipal Agriculture Office, everyone got busy in launching Barangay Langiran as Bayambang’s pilot barangay in agriculture and aquaculture development by distributing vegetable seeds and fingerlings.

The field of athletics refused to be left behind, with the staging of the first-ever Color Run, a seminar on basketball officiating, and a try-out for junior and senior basketball, as well as the hosting of the Inter-LGU Unity Games.

Because the clamor for public service is pressing and nonstop, the LGU can’t afford to sleep on the job, even in the relatively less hectic month of May.
