Gerry Lacuesta, "the father of Philippine cycling"

For pioneering a marathon cycling tournament called the "Tour of Luzon" in the ’50s, he is considered as the “father of Philippine cycling.” And he is from Bayambang. His name is Geruncio 'Gerry' Lacuesta.

Lacuesta was also a lawyer and, on February 15, 1970, published the first community paper of Bayambang, the "Bayambang Post."

He also became a Manila mediaman.

On April 3, 1970, "Bayambang was the starting venue of the Quezon City-Bayambang-Marikina cycling race."

And on the 5th, "Senator Benigno Aquino and Eva Estrada Kalaw led the cornerstone-laying rites for the Bayambang Velodrome," the present site of the relocated Bayambang Central School in Bical Norte.

These photos are from a fun municipal cycling event held partly in Lacuesta's honor on August 28, 2018, the "Padyak Laban sa Kahirapan."
