Andres Malong first brought his fight here

Bayambang, then known as Malunguey, figures in accounts of the Andres Malong revolt of the 1600s. Malunguey was where Malong of Binalatongan (now San Carlos City) first campaigned, but the local resistance was immediately quelled by the Spanish authorities.

This incident once led Pangasinan poet/writer Virginia Pasalo to quip, "You know, you (Bayambangueños) have a history of rebellion -- for the good."

What, for me at least, is very interesting to note in this revolt is: "Malong’s revolt targeted only the Spanish government officials, not the Spanish priest. Obviously, Pangasinenses had a deep reverence for all things Christian."
