DID YOU KNOW?
Atty. Geruncio Lacuesta is not just the father of Philippine cycling, he was also a highly regarded writer and a pioneer in a modern Filipino linguistic movement.
"A lucid and brilliant writer," in the words of fellow Pangasinense mediaman Jun Velasco, 'Gerry' Lacuesta had works published in Manila’s dailies, and was the publisher and editor of "Katas" news-magazine, a Philippine version of the "Reader's Digest" in the Filipino language.
On February 15, 1970, Atty. Lacuesta published a community paper called the “Bayambang-Bautista Post,” which later became "Bayambang Post."
But there was another facet of Lacuesta's legacy. During the 1960s-1970s, he was among those who pioneered the Modernizing the Language Approach Movement (MOLAM), together with former Pangasinan governor Aguedo Agbayani, who was also a former congressman. Lacuesta was the national chairman of a group called the National Language Anti-Purism Movement.
His contribution in this regard is worth studying further.
