History of Bical Norte

 History of Bical Norte

Long time ago, this place was under the district of Sapang. There were very few inhabitants in this place. It was hilly and houses were rare. These houses were built temporarily and people who visited this place could hardly see the houses due to the thickly growing plants around.
The people couldn’t communicate with their neighbors because their houses are very far from each other and also because of the thickly growing plants that covered the hilly place.
One time that was during the Japanese Regime this place was occupied by the Japanese who took over for a month. They evaluated in this place with complete weapon and food supplies. They were surprised why they couldn’t see people around. What caught their attention was the thickly growing plants which covered the hilly grounds. Upon knowing that the Japanese were coming, the inhabitants in this place hid in these thickly growing plants and built temporary houses to dwell in, the Japanese were until such time that a brave man came out from his house and saw the Japanese. They had their interpreter in English because they could hardly understand each other. They used signs in talking with each other, they came to understand each other that these Japanese were asking the name of the plants that grew vigorously which almost covered the locality. They answered, “those are bamboo plants called BICAL, a variety of bamboo with small stem with very small and fine leaves.” So, the Japanese kept on asking the name of this place and it came to their minds that this place was called Bical and kept on mentioning Bical, Bical, Bical, a very nice bamboo plant.
The man who was being interviewed said, “we belonged to the District of Sapang and this place have no name of its own. The interpreter explained to the Japanese that the place had no name, so he kept on telling that this is Bical, full of very nice bamboo plant. The people who were hiding came out one by one and they were very happy when they heard a very nice conversation.
The Japanese were very friendly to the people and agreed to themselves that their place will be named Bical after the bamboo plant called “Bical.” So, the inhabitants gathered together and had a meeting that to be more independent place they rather prefer to stay in one barrio named Bical. They thought it would be more historical in nature rather than to belong to the District of Sapang.
From that time on, the people were very happy because their barrio now had its own name. Some of these bamboos are still thriving and taken cased if by the people for historical reason.
So Bical was then registered as another barrio of Bayambang, which is still existing two kilometers away from the town proper. This is how Bical got its name.
