History of Barangay Asin
Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, these three words are inter-related. Yesterday are but the past which called “History.”
The Barangay was then a Sitio of Barrio Bani of the Municipality of Bayambang, Pangasinan. Its chieftain, then was called Barrio Lieutenant.
Mr. Leodigario Garcia being the Barrio Lieutenant, sought the assistance of Mr. Petronilo Bautista, Mr. Juan T. Bautista, and Mr. Jose Taguiang for the independence of the barangay in 1956 to be separated from Barrio Bani. The new Barrio “Asin” was adopted noting the fact that deep water sources is “Salty.” Asin is a Pangasinan word for “Salt.”
The “Four Knights” Barrio Lieutenant Leodigario C. Garcia, a former military serviceman, Petronilo Bautista, foreman of the Public High ways, Juan T. Bautista, office of the Municipal Treasurer, and Jose Taguiang, Municipal Clerk, both in Bayambang, Pangasinan, worked hand-in-hand for the passage and approval of the Independence of Sitio Asin from Barangay Bani.
Finally, Barangay Asin was born and as a celebration, Barrio Fiesta was celebrated with four Reigning Beauties, sponsored by the “Four Knights” of Barrio Asin.
Barrio Lieutenant was renamed Barangay Captain with Leodigario Garcia, Carlos A. Taguiang, Nelson T. De Vera, Crescencio A. Taguiang and presently Raymundo S. Bautista, Sr. as Punong Barangay of Barangay Asin, Bayambang, Pangasinan.
Tomorrow is but a dream for bright future peace, prosperity and progress with an end results its barangay folks as benefeciaries.
