History of Barangay Tatarac
The Name Tatarac was coined from the words: “Tata” which means Father in Ilocano and “Tarak”, which refers to the English word truck.
During the Old times, Tatarac started as a young sitio which is originally composed of farmlands and with few families dwelling in it. According to stories, there was a rich man who owned a wide portion of farm in Tatarac. He lived from a nearby barangay. He used to ride his truck when he visits his farm. Little children were greatly fascinated by his vehicle because it is so rare during that time. Whenever he passed by, they always called his attention shouting “Tata, Tarak.” They kept on repeating these words until the name Tatarak was born. Later on, the spelling changed from Tatarak to Tatarac.
Tatarakeños are known to be peace-loving, God-fearing, and hardworking people. They depend much on farming and livestock as their source of income. Majority of the people speak Ilocano as their mother tongue and believe in Roman Catholicism as their religion.
There are three phases or puroks known as Purok Uno, Purok Dos, and Purok Tres which comprises Tatarac. As of 2018, there are already 300 household living peacefully and harmoniously.
