History of Barangay Ataynan
Long time ago, there is a tragedy that happened in the past which is the big flood in the said barangay. Hundreds of lives have been lost, their houses were washout and their planted crops were destroyed. Because of the tragedy that happened to them, people evacuated far away from their present residence. People on that barangay lost their work because farming is their basic earn for living. As time go past, they look forward and continued to work for their living even though they faced the big problem that came to their lives. They have been helping hand-in-hand through “Bayanihan” to achieve their goals in life for the sake of their families. Because of hope and unity that each one of the people possessed during that time they needed help to conquer their fears and problems. They became brave enough to face the challenges in their lives that’s why the name “Ataynan” came from the Pangasinan word “Ataynanan”, in Filipino word “napag-iwanan.” That tragedy happened to make them become stronger and until such time that they are really doing progressive work for the betterment of the barangay. At the time, barangay Ataynan is celebrating its patronal fiesta in the month of March in honor to Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary in which people give thanks to all the blessings that GOD gave to their lives.
