Viva, San Vicente Ferrer!  Viva, Bayambang!

     The countdown to April 5 has started!  On that day, a very memorable day for Bayambanguenos, all roads lead to Barangay Bani, Bayambang, Pangasinan.  This year’s fiesta celebration procession starts from the town’s catholic church where the image of Patron Saint Vincent Ferrer occupies the altar—silent but probably an honoured spectator to this grand assembly .  The march ends at the 51-meter high engineered bamboo and steel that is to be unveiled.  This very day marks the 600th death anniversary and the 400th year of St. Vincent  Ferrer  as the town’s patron saint.  The fiesta is a week-long series of activities of fun and frolic—of jubilation!  April 5 to the Bayambanguenos’ calendar marks the 405th Pista’y Baley coinciding with the Jubilee celebration of St. Vincent Ferrer Parish (SVFP) church.

     The town of Bayambang has for its landmark a church where St. Vincent Ferrer is enshrined.  Built in the early 17th Century, this edifice in the central part of the town boasts of its grandeur-- a mixed product of architectural Spanish and Filipino craftsmanship.  It has gone through onslaughts of natural calamities in the course of time, so it also has some structural repairs as it ages.

      The SVFP Church is a haven of all the solemnities and religious rituals of faithful Catholics.  Considered as one of the greatest miracle workers in the Catholic Church, Saint Vincent Ferrer whose life span is is from 1350 to 1419} was born on January 23, 1350 to the couple Guillen Ferrer and Constancio Miguel of noble lineage in Valencia , Spain.  At age 15, he joined the Dominican Order.   The year 1378 marks the Saint’s ordination as priest.

      Though his times was  described as a turbulent period in the  history of the Church, SVF, undoubtedly preached in Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.  He is dubbed as the patron saint of Builders, Angel of the Judgment.  Foremost is his “building up” practices which strengthen the church by his missionary work and preaching.  He speaks about the gospel to Christians, the Jews, the Muslims and other sects.  Estimate says he was able to convert 200,000 souls.  His gift of tongue proves its multiplier effect which consequently made the Jews turned their synagogues into Catholic Church.

     His intercessions are very powerful such that he can still a storm and stop a flood. As saint overseer in Bayambang , he has, likewise, saved the townfolks from natural calamities and catastrophes on several occasions.

     As  firm believers and devotees to SVF, the couple Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao and his wife, Mary Clare Judith Phyllis Jose-Quiambao have thought of the construction of the St. Vincent  Ferrer Prayer Park in Barangay Bani, Bayambang.  The project is ably handled by a good number of private reputable companies. Its groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 20, 2018.  This tallest religious structure, a replica of Saint Vincent Ferrer,  have  all its amenities  as a Prayer Park that signify how deeply the Saint  is loved and thanked for.  Surely, pilgrims from different places can visit, and where people can pray and meditate and venerate this Patron Saint.

      This Prayer Park is an ideal refuge for meditation, reflections and prayers.  This  will serve as an avenue for marketing our produce—a great source of livelihood and income which will alleviate the financially hard-up from their state of poverty.
