Traditional Pangasinan Religious Songs

In church rituals and festivities, some Pangasinan songs were also traditionally sung. The popular "Ama Mi" ("Our Father") is, of course, like the national anthem of Pangasinan Catholics.

"Ama Mi"

Ama mi wala kad tawen,

nagalang so ngaran Mo,

onsabid sikami'y panarian Mo,

Onore'y linawam diad dalin, onong ed tawen.

Say kanen mi'n inagew-agew,

iter mo'd sikami agew aya.

Tan pandien Mo ray utang mi,

onong na panamaandi mi'y utang day akautang ed sikami;

Tan ag Mo kami iter ed tukso,

ilaban Mo kami'd maoges. Amen.

In the parasal prior to the prusisyon during Santacruzan, the Salve Cruz Sancasantosan would interject every stanza of prayer.

Salve Cruz

Salve cruz ya sankasantosan

ya inateya'y Criston cataoan

say tawen tan kadalinan (say dalin sankasalbaan)

ya igalang min andi teldan.

A distinctive song is the Gozos nen San Vicente Ferrer. According to Dr. Clarita D.G. Jimenez in her book, "Subol na Pananisia," the 'gozos' is an original composition honoring the saint, the lyrics of which are in the vernacular (Pangasinan language). It dates back many years ago, with the exact date unknown, and is found in old novenarios (prayer books) for the saint. Every after the holy mass on Sundays, the 'gozos' is sung. Every six o’clock in the evening, after the church bells are rung for Angelus, the 'gozos' is played from a recorded tape.

Gozos nen San Vicente Ferrer

Bangta matoor kan mangasi

Diad sikay apirengan mi

Pikasi mo kami pa San Vicente

Na singa say pangilalo mi

Say agilan mangaridios

Nen mababa ni andin balot

So inkianak mon matoor

Inpropeta to lan sipor

So penel a kaibigan lanti

Pista’y gayagan masuri

- Pikasi mo…

Niyanak kan oliranay

Grasyan milagron gawam

Elementos igagangan

Naoley mon kinakatakutay

Inpiyerno ed pakayari

Tan belat na lupam a dili

- Pikasi mo…

Adios

Adios O Reinay tawen

Inan ar-aroen

Sikay pataniran.

Adios Inan malagak

Ina na Dios anak

Esposan mapararo

Na Espiritu Santo.

Adios gayagay tawen

Ligliway maermen

Salimbeng day makabos

Adios, Adios, Adios.

According to Boyette Santillan Poserio, in their place called Pulok Ombubuskag and thereabouts (today's Zone II), the residents have a song during the feast of another saint, St. Roque.

Ilaban mo kami San Roque

ed salba'y salot ya onsabi...

Other religious-themed songs are the "Pantaotaoag," which is sung during All Saints' Day, and "Aligando" and "Galikin," which are songs in honor of the Feast of the Three Wise Men (Magi). Then there were, of course, the freestyle songs of the cantores, sung during various occasions.
